Church History

Faith CRC began meeting for worship as “Fourth CRC” during the summer of 1979 and was formally organized as a congregation of the Christian Reformed Church in September of that year. The name “Faith” was chosen, and as our attendance grew, worship services were moved from Te Paske Theatre at the Sioux Center High School to the Dordt College chapel auditorium. First pastor, Rev. David Smit, arrived in April 1980, and our building was dedicated in June 1981. We began as a congregation of many young families and still enjoy a generous proportion of youthful members.

Rev. Cliff Hoekstra (1989-1997) and Rev. Bernie Haan (1998-2014), were instrumental in shaping us as a congregation. Our Households of Faith program was launched in 2001 and our staff grew to include Ministry Assistant/Youth Director, Chad Van Ginkel, who served from 2002-2018. Rev. David Smit, now retired, joined our staff in 2013 as Pastor of Ministries. Our current pastor, Bob Pollema, has been at Faith since 2015.

We have been committed to missions and outreach throughout our history. One of our more significant local connections has been with the Laotian community of Northwest Iowa, a tie we still maintain through our work with Siouxland Unity CRC in Sioux City.

As we reflect on the past, we can see how God has faithfully provided what we need to nurture us in faith and equip us for service. We look toward the future with eagerness to discover how God will continue to use us to serve him.
