Vasya and Maranda (Hoogland) Heytsi are church planters living and working in the western part of Ukraine. Maranda is a Sioux County native and Vasya is a Ukrainian. Both have been called by the Lord to work for God's kingdom. They married in 2006 and have two sons, Nataniel and Mehae (Micah).

They started New Life Evangelical Free Church in 2010 and are working to reach out to bring the gospel to the people of Ukraine. Vasya Heytsi is the ordained pastor of New Life and works together with his wife Maranda in doing outreach work and in disciplining those that have already received Jesus Christ. New Life is very involved with especially the youth in the area. They have a Christian club at the church that is open daily. Kids are able to come and hang out playing games such as board games, Ping-Pong, fooseball, and just socialize. The youth and younger kids are also taught Bible lessons weekly. There are a number of other ways the Heytsi family and others at New Life are reaching out.

Because they work in such a needy country as Ukraine, they see daily ways to help others. Buying and making food for the hungry, providing for heat in the winters, providing clothes, and even dental and medical help are some of those ways. It is by God’s grace that He has been blessing the ministry in Ukraine. People are hearing the Gospel, finding hope and help, and God is being glorified.
